Q.

Son is ill after vistis with father

Hi, My son (16 mnths) visits his father every second Saturday, and when he comes home he starts vomiting and can' t even keep liquids down, and is sick for 3-4 days. He gets better, and cycle starts all over again when he visits his father. I have had my son at various doctors, and they tell me its a virus (two-weekly virus?) Please advise... as I don' t know what to do anymore, and the father claims that he only gives my son what I pack in for him for the day (I supply bottles and food) and some biscuits.

I am not happy about this story. It seems very odd that your son gets ill in the same way every time he visits his father. It is most unlikely to be a viral illness each time. He may be picking up a tummy bug such as a salmonella due to unhygienic handling of his milk and food but even that would be unlikely to occur every time like this.Has a stool sample been sent by any of the doctors he has seen for culture for possible bacteria or viruses? This needs to be done. It would probably be best not send your son to his father until you have a clear answer as to what is causing this problem. You really must make every effort to find out.
