Something stuck in throat?

Hello Doctor,

My 9 month old has a cold. He has a blocked nose and a cough, with a few sneezes. I am using Salex nose drops and giving him ProB2 drops and Mucospect. I am also using the nebulizer with Bisolvin mixed with saline solution for 5 mins every day. This has been going on since 8th March. He coughs like there is something stuck in his throat. I have tried to give him cereal this morning and he coughed, gagged and then vomited it all up. He preferred jelly this afternoon. He has no temperature. I have tried to look at his tonsils and they are about the size of my baby finger nail and are not swollen shut.

Could it be that he is choking on the mucous? Or perhaps has a sore throat from the constant post nasal drip and this bothers him when eating? If his tonsils were infected, would he have a temperature?

Thank you.

This is a good question and you have given a clear description of your baby's problem. The most likely cause for his cough and the fact that he seems to be choking is a post nasl drip. You are using all the correct medicines and treatments. He does not seem to have a tonsil infection. It is important to use the Salex at least twice daily and get a nasal sucker from the chemist to suck more mucous from his nose. If he is still coughing by Tuesday 23 March it would be best to ask your doctor to see him.
