Q.

soap taste in mouth and/or throat

hi doc my 5 year old just complained about a soapy taste in her throat. what could it be? should i be worried? tks

This is not a common complaint. The known causes for this include children eating toothpaste,taking too much flouride and persistent mouth breathing. Mouth breathing in this age group is usually due to a blocked nose.If your child's nose is blocked use a saline nasal spray such as Sterimar twice daily to clear his/her nose.If your child's nose is not blocked it would be a good idea to use a non-flouride containing toothpaste for a few months.Flouride-free toothpaste is difficult to find, but some health shops stock this kind of toothpaste.
