Sleeping problem

Dear Doc,
Thank-you so much for taking your time to answer all our questions, much appreciated! Wishing you all the best for the new year!!!

I have a problem with my 4.5month baby girl. She struggles to fall asleep during the day and she is constantly crying because she is tired. She will wake up in the morning at about 7am then will only sleep at about 9pm. No matter what i try, she just won' t sleep, she just cries. I know for a fact that its not hunger because most of the time she doesn' t want her feed, her eyes will be sleepy. At night she sleeps and wakes up 5-7 times for her night feeds. Is this normal for a breastfed baby?

Another problem she has is a rash that looks like a burn that has healed ie the rash is not red. Its not sore at all and has been in her private part for over a month now. Her Paed said its an allergy. I' ve tried changing the brands i use but nothing helps. Can you kindly advise. Thank-you!

Thank you. Your baby's sleep problem is certainly a worry for you. It is unusual for a baby of this age not to sleep at all during the day and to wake up so frequently at night [up to 7 times] Of course teething could be a problem at her age,but that is not the whole story. You should certainly start her on solids now and it may just be that she is not satisfied on breastmilk as well. Try and supplement one of her feeds with a feed for hungry babies such as Lactogen1.
Her rash is difficult to be sure about as I cannot see her, but may simply be a reaction to urine. Try Antipeol cream and see if this helps. Let me know if she improves or if you still have a problem.
