Sleeping at night

Hello Doctor,

Welcome back. Do you have any tips to get a 6 month old baby to sleep better at night? He has rice cereal for breakfast, butternut for lunch and Purity fruit at night. He drinks Lactogen 2 during the day and wakes up about 5 times a night to have about 100ml of the same.

Should I put less scoops of formula so that he is eventually drinking slightly flavoured water and he hopefully will not wake up so often for water or only do this when he is older? I have heard that he teeth may get cavities from too many milk feeds and he has a few coming through.

Is he too young to do controlled crying?

It is very hot where we live and even I get up to drink water at night, but I would prefer if he was not up so often.

Thank you for your time.

There are two possible reasons for your baby's frequent waking at night. He is teething so this is one possibility. The other seems to be that he is hungry. You can give him more in the way of solids Lactogen is a good formula for hungry babies but he seems to be drinking too little before bedtime at night.Do not give him water or other fluids now. He is definitely too young for the controlled crying method.
