Sleeping &  Formula

Greetings Doc,

I have a problem with my 1yr 1week old girl. She has never slept through the night since birth. I have established that the reason for that is because she only eats very small portions but frequently so she carries on with that even at night. As a result she wakes up 5 to 7 times at night. This has been going on since she was born. I recently changed her formula from Perlagon to Nido1. She only drinks 80-100ml per feed (since way back even on Perlagon). I give her cereal in the morning, during the day &  at night I give her a nutritionous meal consisting of cabs, veggies &  protein with healthy snacks in between but she only eats about 5-6 spoons of all her meals. She weighs 9.3kg. I once tried sleep training her but was not successful, I felt so bad because at the back of my mind I kept on thinking that she' s hungry. Should I try it again or should I get her a formula that will make her full? What can I do, I am so desparate.

Sorry for the long e-mail. Your view will be greatly appreciated.

The starting point here is that your baby's weight is excellent. Her weight is exactly on the average line for babies of her age, so she is getting enough in the way of food and fluids. Nido is an excellent follow on formula for babies from 12 months onwards so you do not need to be concerned about her formula either. She has become used to this pattern of waking very often at night for top up feeds instead of eating and drinking enough during the day. There seems to be only one solution to this and that is to go through the sleep training programme with her.
