Sleep Issues

Hi Doc

My daughter is nearly 11 months old. She only sleeps about 1 and a half hours during the day. At night she will fall asleep at about 7:30 and will wake at 11:30 for a feed. Basically from then she is restless for hours on end. She will sit up and cry or go onto her knees and cry. Occassionaly if i leave her she will fall asleep but will just wake again in a couple of minutes. She has no teeth yet but she is constantly rubbing her mouth and face, so we think they are on their way but they never seem to come! We have been having these sleep issues for about 3 weeks already and nothing seems to help so have resorted to just putting her in bed with us so we can get SOME sleep. I would appreciate any help or advise.

It is difficult to be able to pinpoint the cause of your baby's restlessness at night. She is not a great sleeper in the day either. The problem is why she fails to go to sleep again after she has had a feed at 11:30pm.She is teething so that may have been the start of the problem. Now she knows she will end up in your bed so this could be aggravating the problem as she has become used to doing this. You should use a teething gel at night where her teeth seem to be coming through. If you are sure that there is no other possible reason for her restlessness then you may have to try the contolled crying method in order to get some rest.
