Skinny after stomatitis

Dear Paed

My 17 month old son developed herpetic stomatitis last Friday, and needless to say didn''t eat anything from Friday morning till this morning when he had a few bites of custard. He only drank about 350 ml of milk per day, but that at least prevented him from becoming dehydrated. He has lost a lot of weight and is skinny and weak. Can you please offer tips on how to get him back into shape asap? he has a dairy intolerance.

thank you for your excellent help as always!

You are very welcome.Once your son's herpes ulcers have healed in his mouth and he is able to eat normally again, he will rapidly gain weight and soon get back to normal. All you should do is to give him a probiotic for 10 days to boost his immunity and give him Scotts emulsion with its high Vitamin A content to boost his resistance to viral infections.
