Q.

Skin rash

Evening doctor

My son is now 20 months and for the past three weeks he has a rash on his bum, testicles and in his thighs. The rash looks like pimples (without the white head). We took him to the chemist when we were on holiday in Margate and they informed us that it is the heat that causes him to sweat and cause the rash. They advised me to mix Antepeol and Medaspor and apply with every nappy change.

It is just strange to me that the rash comes and goes. If we apply the creams maybe twice, the rash dissappears for a while and then returns again.

Can the sandpit at school maybe also be part of the problem? Maybe the sand that scratches him?

I as well as the creche changes his nappy regularly. He uses +- 6-9 nappies during the day at school.

Please tell me what you think doctor, as I am really starting to get worried about this situation.

Thanking you in advance.

This sounds like a candida rash. Did your little son have an antibiotic recently? He should have a probiotic such as Probiflora junior once daily for 10 days. Treat his rash with Nystatin cream applied at least 3 times ady for a minimum of 5 days. This should clear the rash.If the rash comes back please let me know.
