Sinus Rinse for a 5 year old?

My son is 5 years old and was in hospital last week with bronchophnemonia, he has a high allergy for carpet bugs the ear, nose throat specialist is suggesting a Sinus rinse to help with the allergy, I don`t want to put him through any unnecessary procedures, is this painful and will it relieve the allergy?

It is very unusual for a child of this age to have severe sinus infection, but it can and does happen. A sinus washout is certainly NOT recommended. This procedure is painful and hardly ever helps in young children. Even when it is done the sinus problem returns within a few days. What your son requires is to have his nasal allergy properly treated. That will help with his sinuses as well and he will soon be lots better. He should be seen by a paediatric allergist so that he can be properly diagnosed and treated.
