Q.

Singulair, Venteze and Betanoid

Hello Doctor

I have 2 boys, 22 months and 6 months old.
Both have had a cold right through winter - there were better days and there were worse days.

They both have a phlem-cough - not tight at all, in fact very loose.

The eldest is using Singulair.

I have Venteze syrup and Betanoid syrup at home - can I give them this (one or both) to help them get rid of these coughs...

Your children both appear to have the same problem probably caused by the same virus. This is called bronchiolitis which is an infection of the small airways of their lungs. This illness usually takes about 3 weeks to clear up, sometimes longer. Singulair will be of some benefit to your older boy. There is no indication for using either Venteze syrup which will make both cjhildren very active or Betanoid which is a very powerful cortisone medicine. The fact that they have loose coughs is a good sign and they are clearing the mucous from their lungs.
