Sick Toddler (21 Month Old)

Dear Dr
My son has been ill since Jun non-stop. It all started with tonsillitis, followed by diarrhea (for 10 days), then a ear infection, then diarrhea again (lasting for 5 days, I took him to the pead, and he has tonsillitis as well as gastro (got antibiotics)), and now he has a snotty nose (for the last 4 days), and is coughing at night and early morning...I have him on echinaforce, tonsilyte (since it was the 3rd time he has had tonsillitis this year), viralguard, and creche guard. I have also given him AP LORATADINE SYRUP 2.5ml per day for the last 2 days, and prospan 3 times a day and mucopec 3 times a day. (He does not have fever, and still play and laughs)

He stays at home during the day with his cousin, granny and nanny. He is a big boy, 13.2kg 89cm. Normally he healthy, but I don''t know what to do any more. Do I take him to the pead/GP again? Is there something to that I can give him to boost his immunity?

Please help

Your son has indeed had one infection after another. I thought that he may be at a creche until I read that he is a stay at home child. He is a very big boy indeed and big children may often be susceptible to recurrent viral infections, especially chest infections. It is important to ask his paediatrician to check his immunoglobulin levels, known as IgA, IgG and IgM to make sure that he does not have an immunoglobulin deficiency. If all is well with these immunoglobulin levels then he should be on Scotts Emulsion and a good probiotic every day to maintain his immune system and to try to protect him against viral infections.
