Q.

Sick Baby

Hi Doc,

about 2 months ago my daughter got an ear infection went on a course of amoxcill (i think), then two weeks later she got croup and got some cortisone. she now has a runny nose and starting cough again. this will be the third time in less than two months. Had her at the paed on monday for her one year checkup and she was given the thumbs up. Then a few days later snot nose again. I give her creche guard and scotts emulsion and she still seems to pick up this flu.

Its going to be a long winter if this carries on. what can I do to try prevent this from happening all the time.

She goes to a day mom and there are only two of them, so its not a creche. She is one years old

Good question and you are not alone as this is a very common problem at this age.Your baby appears to have a post nasal drip which is causing her coughing. She often has a thick nasal discharge and has had at least one ear infection. She probably has infected adenoids. In addition to her Creche Guard and Scotts Emulsion you should try to keep her nose as clear as possible by using saline nose drops twice a day. This has to be done every day to be effective. If she gets ill again she should be seen by an ENT specialist.
