Q.

Sick Baby

Hi Doctor

My one year old boy has a runny nose, cough, throat infection and a high fever (38.9 Degrees). The doctor has given him an anti biotic because of the throat infection. I am concerned as he refuses to drink any liquids, not even his milk. I have even tried to give him liquids using a syringe. He is eating his cereal in the morning and I have been giving it to him in the evenings as well. Can you please advise me as to what I should do as I am concerned that he will dehydrate.

You need to be concerned, because it is essential for your baby to take sufficient fluids now. As he is not drinking at all you need to find out if this is due to his tonsillitis or if there is another problem such as ulcers in his mouth. Please take him back to your paediatrician ASAP.

he is not eating becuase of the conjestionin hisnose and throat.
use a nasal spray to clear the conjestion and maybe a litlle ice-cream to keep his throat cool with food afterwards.
I found Ponstan to be the ideal medication to bring down the fever. Do not over dress Him
