It is unusual for such a young child to complain about shin splints. Shin splints are usually caused by over exercising usually running too much. Sometimes flat feet aggravate the probelem. The pain is caused by inflammation of the tendons of muscles attached to the shin bones. It is always best to ask your paediatrician to see your son if he has this complaint.
