Q.

Scared and Tired Toddler

Hi

I am thinking of taking my child to a child psychologist, the reason we, the family, are getting little to no sleep at the moment and he seems terrified of sleeping and normal things. Daniel my son is 2yrs and 5 mnths, he has not been a good sleeper but about two weeks ago my husband was held up in a robbery and although he was not hurt he is traumatised and this has had a strange affect on Daniel, Daniel wants to be with his Dad more than ever and he seems scared to be away from him. Daniel is not sleeping and does not want to go to school, the school recently started potty training which has made Daniel not want to go to school, I have now told the teacher to stop the training. Please advise me if you have a solution for this little guy or should i take him to a child psychologist.

Thank you

Your son appears to have been very traumatised by his father's very unpleasant experience. He has developed a severe form of separation anxiety. It may be best to take him out of the school for the rest of this year. Give him lots of love and attention and help him get through this difficult time.If his grandparents live nearby it would be ideal for him to spend time with them now.
