Q.

Sand Fleas

Hi Professor,

My children are being bitten badly by what I think are sand fleas/lice in the sandpit. I found a huge flea type bug in my one son''s trousers. Is there anything I can spray/rub onto them to prevent the bites? Bayticol? My sons are 2 and 5 years old.

Thank you.

It is very difficult to prevent flea bites. It will help if you give both of your boys Vitamin B1 daily for 3 months. The Vitamin B1 comes in tablet form and is known as Thiamine HCL.The tablets come in a 100mg strength. Your 2 year old must take one quarter of a tablet once daily for 3 months and your 5 year old half a tablet once a day for 3 months. You may need to crush the tablets in a very small amount of honey or jam in a teaspoon. The Thiamine tablets can be bought over the counter at your pharmacy without a prescription.
