Q.

Runny tummy

Hi
Please help. In mid December 2009 my 16 month old girl was diagnosed by our paed with a viral gastro and he put her on a course of Purbac. She completed the course and her tummy settled down a little bit.
On 30 Dec her tummy started really running again and our paed did a stool test last week, the tests have come back clear.
Problem is my girls tummy is still very loos and watery at times. She is generally passing what she has eaten withing 6 to 12 hours and you can see it in her stool.
She is on rice milk, not dairy.
Please help i am at my wits end.
Thanks

It is possible that your little girl has developed a temporary problem with lactose intolerance. This is common after severe gastro in this age group. Are you sure that she is not getting any milk in the form of yoghurt or other dairy product?. Take her off the rice milk and try her on a soya formula such as Isomil 2 for a period of at least 6 weeks.
