Runny noses

Hello Doc!

I have a 15 month old and a 3 year old.
The baby, had croup 2 weeks ago, and has had a runny nose ever since.
Took him back to the doctor a week ago and asked for covomycin d as he did not have any fever and I did not want to put him on antibiotics.
Other then that, we suck out his nose and use sterimar.
Monday my 3 year old also has a runny nose, and today is the last I can use Iliadin.

Now my actual questions:
What is the best treatment for runny noses???
Is it possible to stop a runny nose from turning into something more serious??
And when is it time to start considering antibiotics??

Thank you so much for your time and advice, it is really appreciated!!!!

You are very welcome. Both of your children have recently had or have colds. Colds are caused by virus infections so antibiotics will not help. Children usually get over these infections by themselves as their immune systems take over. The best treatment is to keep their noses clear. It is always safe to use Sterimar nasal spray twice day.It is also a good idea to suck the mucous from your younger son's nose. You should not use Iliadin for more than 5 days at a time.Boost your children's immunity by using Scotts Emulsion through the winter with its high Vitamin A content.
