Runny nose and ears

Hi doctor,

Can you please give me some advise, my 21 months old son had a tonsillectomy 3 weeks ago, but now he has a runny nose and his ears are also busy draining for more than a week now, is it necessary for antibiotics or not, he had fever in the beginning but nothing now. I am using Saline drops and Panado and also antibiotics ear drops (actually eye drops - Exco.... something). The ENT gave these drops after grommets operation. He is also busy teething with his lower " eye tooth" .

Thank you doctor.

Your little son's teething is not causing his present symptoms. He should have settled down by now after his operation 3 weeks ago. It does sound as if he has developed an infection. It would be best to ask the ENT surgeon who did the operation to see your son again. In the meantime continue to use saline nose drops such as Salex or Sterimar children's nasal spray.
