Q.

Rota and RSV

Good Morning Prof.
What is the difference between Rotavirus and RSV and would you say a toddler is more " imune"  to these viruses after two and if they have had it already.
Also, why do you think that here in CT there are so many sick people and children this year? it is only January and viruses and tummy bugs are rampant?

Rotavirus causes severe gastro in young babies and toddlers in particular. RSV is a respiratory virus that causes quite severe chest infections especially in children under 2 years of age.You are correct,it is unusual that so many children are ill this summer. It may be because many of them have been exposed to viruses brought in by family and friends visiting here from overseas.
