Ringworms on inside of head- 2 year old son

Hi Doc,
Yesterday I decided to take my son to the salon to have his hair shaved. Once all hair was removed , I got a surprise of my life. He' s got rings showing inside his head. It' s not outside yet but if he stands in the light you can see the rings all over his head. I am so worried, I don' t even know what to think and where to begin. How dangerous is this and what should my next step be? I don' t want to wait too long as this could become serious if not already. Although he is eating, he has also lost some weight and I assumed that it was part of growing up and because I am also not a big person but his dad is. Do you think the weight issue is linked to the ring worms? What is most scary is that it is not out yet but it' s like drawings on his head. Please help, am desparate !!!!!!!

This does sound like scalp ringworm or tinea. He needs to have an ointment called Canesten cream appied twice daily to his scalp. It would be best if he also took a medicine to kill the fungus which causes the ringworm. The medicine is called Griseofulvin Syrup. The dose is usually 125mg daily for 6 weeks. Speak to your pharmacist.
