This is a scalp infection which is caused by a fungus and is known as 'tinea'. This is difficult to treat and does not usually respond to antifungal shampoos or to antifungal creams. the best tretament is a medicine called Griseofulvin which is given as a tablet and has to be taken once a day for 6 weeks. The dose will depend on your son's weight. Speak to your pharmacist.
