Q.

RINEX for Kids

Hi
this morning i received an email that is certified by SAPS that amongst others, Rinex for Kids has been RECALLED, it is claimed to cuase bleeding in the brain, my worry is that i have been giving by 1yr old this medicine for the past week because she was coming up with a cold, for the past 3 night she hasnt been sleeping well and just last night i decided to give her the same medication just to make her drowsy and ease the discomfort. i am very worried now, should i take her to doc, should i just go to pharmacist to have better explanation, do you think its severe?

pls reply before i go nuts

Medicines such as Rinex contain an ingredient called phenylephrine which are no longer considered to be safe to use in infants and young children. This is why you will see that I always only advise using Saline nose drops to clear blocked nose in this age group.

about 4 months back i gave it to my kids (4 & 2) as well, someone told me that for such a short use it will not do any harm, only if you use it constantly. If you are worried, phone a peadiatritian, I'm sure they will help you over the phone.
