Q.

Restless 4 week old

Dr, my 4 week old baby was sleeping most of the time, but for the last 3 days she' s been extremely restless (not really crying, but moaning). She also struggles to fall asleep now and wants to breastfeed every 2 hours or so (she was feeding 3 hourly before) and also " fights"  with the breast. Her tummy goes once a week. Should I try Bennett' s colic mixture although she does not really have crying episodes? As soon as i lay her down to sleep, she starts getting restless. Could it be cramping/winds?

It is difficult to be sure about the cause of your baby's restlessness. She is certainly constipated and should not only pass one stool a week at her age. Is she being exclusively breast fed or are you giving her a formula as well? It is unusual for a breasfed baby to be so constipated. She may have colic but her symptoms are not typical. another possibility is that she is not geting enough breast milk as she keeps on waking up for feeds. The part of your story that concerns me the most is the fact that she only passes one stool a week. If she is being exclusively breastfed then there may be a problem which needs to be diagnosed by a paediatrician. It would be best to ask your paediatrician to see your baby.
