Refusing Formula

Hi Doctor
I posted a while ago that my son was not eating or drinking after having had coxsakie virus a month ago, he then got a stomach bug this last week and was not eating or drinking formula - only juice (he is 10 months old) i weighed him on Saturday and he was 10.3KG''s at 9months and now is 9.8kgs, so he has lost. Also he is now eating again since yesterday, and is drinking his juice, but refuses the formula point blank. I have tried giving it to him in other cups, with a straw you name it - but as soon as he smells it he pushes it away and gets aggressive. I have tried other formulas - same result. the only way i could get him to drink the formula was when he fell asleep to slip the bottle in and he would drink 100ml, but no more. what can i do? And why would he be refusing the formula?

Your baby son's weight is still above the average for his age.It is difficuly to be able to say why your baby has gone off his formula to this extent. Perhaps his recent illness has something to do with his sudden dislike for drinking his formula. Another possibility is that he is now so used to the sweet taste of fruit juices that he just does not want milk any more.Obviously fruit juice is no substitute for milk for a baby of 10 months.Stop giving him fruit juice altogether and offer him a formula that he may like such as NAN Pelargon which has a yoghurt-like taste that appeals to many babies.
