Q.

Reflux and lactose intolence

Hi,

I have twins 4 months old they both suffer for reflux, my boy is on Nan ar and is drinking very well.

The problem lies with the girl she seems to be lactose intolerent aswell we put her on Nan Ar and she had really bad cramps, and refused the bottle we tried for one week. She' s now back on Nan LF and for the reflux we are thickening it with a little bit of rice cereal. The problem is that she' s not drinking well at all mostly only 50ml and fighting the bottle all the time. I think the cereal is filling her up to much. Her weight is fine shes 6.7kg.

There is no AR/LF combo on the market what else can I do to get her to drink properly, shes also up at least 5 times a night.

I know you do get nestrogel but I believe it' s a nightmare to prepare?

Please help

Thank you

Excellent, clearly presented question. Your baby son is doing well on the anti-reflux formula. Your little girl is lactose intolerant besides having reflux. She either cannot suck the thickened formula or she gets too full on it. So she needs to stay on the NAN LF.Then either you simply give her an antacid such as Gaviscon liquid 1.25ml up to 6 times daily after feeds or preferably ask your paediatrician to give her a safe treatment such as Losec once daily to reduce her stomach acid. This can be stopped once she has stopped refluxing.

I use a formula for my little boy called Similac Alimentum - it is really expensive at R125 per small tin but it works like a charm for him - and he has major dairy allergies.

good luck!

Hi did the Doc also prescribed losec tablets for the reflux, maybe she already associat(sp?) the milk with the reflux? My LB also had reflux and was lactose intollerant. He was also on NAN LFmDid yoy lift her pillow a bid or the cot then at the head end.And hold them upright for 20-30 minutes after their drink!
Shame man, good luck,i know how it feels,my little boy did not outgrow the reflux ,he was never since birth a good sleeper, always restless sleeper!
