Is there any dieterty requirement, what food must we avoid? I give him rooibos tea, Nan 3, water and juice to drink. He eat whatever we eat for luch and supper. breakfast he eats jungle oats and pronutro.

Thank you very much, much appreciated

Reflux is very common in babies and toddlers. The great majority of babies and children will grow out of this problem. Reflux is due to the valve at the lower end of the oesophagus [ the food pipe] where it joins the stomach being immature and not working properly. With time this valve will develop more and start working normally.Losec is a good medicine for reflux and it stops the acid from the stomach which would otherwise cause discomfort as it comes back up into the lower part of the food pipe.Your little son's diet is good but it would help to stop the fruit juices which are very acid.

Goodday Sali,

My son of 2 years old also have severe reflux since birth. He was also on Losec but that didn''t seem to work for him, then the doctor gave Nexium 10 mg x 1 a day a change and that seemed to worked, untill about 3 months ago.

In December our ped recommended that we send our son for the reflux operation. We do not want to put our son through that.

If I can give you good advice try the Sister Lillian Nausea and Reflux tablets, that is excellent. It is a natural product (tissue salts) For the past two months he did not vomit once I give the tablet 3 times daily and it really did wonders.

Sometimes he try to vomit but he is not succesfull that just tells me that the stomach velve is getting stronger and stronger. And the tablets is r60 for 90 tablets at any Dischem

Hope it helps

Hi there I saw your post, hope you dont mind me replying. My youngest son is now 14 months. For the first 10 weeks of his life, he is been in hospital 4 times a long way from home. I went to the best paediatrician available and he said my son was the worst case of reflux en colic he has ever seen. We never slept for the first 5 months of his life. Losec mups are the best for your problem. 17 months, shoe! You need to stop giving fruit juice, it contains too much acid. Give weak Oros or Rooibos tea. Let him sleep a bit upright, put some pillows under his back to raise him a bit, or you can try to lift the bed/cot by putting bricks under it. My son slept in a sitting position for the first 4 months of his life in his carseat next to my bed. Dont worry, it will al pass.
