Q.

red spots in throat

Dr, my son had URI a week ago, with all the usual meds ect....This morning I looked into his mouth, just because he said his tooth was sore....I had a fright when I saw red (bloody?) spots in the back of his throat on his palate....He also has the usaul allergies ect. What on earth could this be? Do I need to be worried at all?

You have made an excellent observation. These small bleeding spots could be due to a condition called 'thrombocytopenic purpura'. This may be due to a viral illness and results in a deficiency of the blood cells known as platelets which are important in the clotting of blood. You should take your son to a doctor. He willl need to have a full blood count test done as well as a full examination by the doctor.
