Q.

Red cheeks

Hi dr
My almost 3 year old daughter has been having these red inflamed cheeks recently. She complains that it''s burning. She''s otherwise healthy - just the normal allergies for this time of the year. What could be the cause &  what can I put on it?
Thanks so much!

This is probably due to a Parvovirus B19 infection causing an illness called Fifth Disease or 'Slapped cheeks syndrome' due to the appearance of the red cheeks. This illness is usually very mild and no tests are needed If your daughter has a fever you can give her Panado syrup to make her feel more comfortable. This illness passes over by itself after a few days.
