Sorry Prof, forgot to ask this - he also tends to hold his breath, and then grunts when he exhales, and he does this on almost every breath when he is sleeping or trying to fall asleep? breathing rate is normal.

This is in fact called 'grunting' and is usually due to children having pneumonia. It would be best to ask your doctor to see your son again about his grunting.
