re: very pale 4 yo

Dear Prof

My son''s FBC came back normal, except for a low monocyte count. CRP also low. He also had low monocyte count in Sept? What could the cause be?

A low monocyte count can result from recent cortisone treatment. If your son has not had cortisone lately a low monocyte count can be an indication that your son is more likely to develop infections and has a lowered immunity to infections.
