Re: sick 5 year old

Dear Doc

I thought i would just update you on my son. He was admitted and after the peadiatrician saw him he said:

He currently has bronchial pneumonia. He is taking antibiotics for that. They are waiting for the results on testing for 2 specific kinds of virusses as the possible cause for the long protracted poor appetite/recurring fevers and lethargy.

The abdominal scan revealed mesenteric adenitis and some inflammation (?) around the liver, which he believes is a result of the virus and causing the stomach pain.

So he is on an antibiotic for 5 days. Neurofen 6 hourly regardless of pain or fever for 5 days.

Something very positive is that the sister was able to teach him a coping mechanism to get the medicine in. So for the first time he is taking medication orally. The dr said the fact that he has only once before in his life taken antibiotics, is most likely one of the reasons he responded so well to even the first dose.

Thank you again for all your responses and advise. You are so appreciated by all of us.

Thank you for letting me know and for your kind words. I hope that your son gets better soon. His pneumonia does not explain his recurring fevers and a cause should be sought for this.
