re: Pneumonia treatment

Dear Prof

Culture results indicate S pneumoniae and Haemophilus. Plus little chap started with lowgrade fever today, so he''s back on the Zinnat, this time for 10 days. IV if his fever continues and does not subside by Tuesday. Our paed says its the second child in which both were cultured, and it concerns him that this may be immunized disease. He is still waiting for ome other tests to be run on the organisms that were cultured. What is your take on this?

It is certainly possible that these strains of both pneumococcus and haemophilus were not included in your son's original vaccination schedule. The latest pneumococcal vaccine has been now contains 13 strains. I cannot understand why he is back on Zinnat which so far has failed to treat your son's pneumonia.
