Re: persistently swollen lymph node progressing

Dear Prof

Our paed blew it off. He said to wait a few weeks until the node had settled after my son''s cold and see if it shrinks back to 2 cm?

I also had a question about this son (he''s 4 yo) as he''s shoulders are uneven (this is the little chap with Arnold Chiari and who is FG syndrome-ish) - his left should is higher than the right and head tilted a bit too. His OT noticed it, and also asked whether he had respiratory issues when he was a baby as his sternum flares (lower part is more depressed) more that expected for a hypotonic child. I told her that he hadn''t had any problems. Also asked out paed who said that the level at which his shoulders were uneven was not enough to warrant orthopedic attention? So when is it? His should is at least 4 cm higher.

It is possible that your son has a scoliosis or curvature of his spine. His spine should be X rayed and if he does have a scoliosis it will be necessary to see an orthopaedic specialist. He is too young to have any correction done at his age but he will need careful follow up.
Keep a close eye on the gland in his neck.
