Re growth

RE the post below posted before and your response, as i was advised to return in another 3m to check the growth and weight of my 13 m old, just to clarify he is currently 26 months not 13 months and he is 10.5kg and 85cm in length. What could be the possible problems associated with a lack of grwth if the family historty is of mostly taller people or the weight problem as you say he is int he 3rd percentile. What should i be asking my paedi to look out for? Can any of the problems be treated if there indeed is a problem? and lastly could an iron defiency cause lack of grwoth and weight or even maybe the congenital pneumonia at birth perhaps? any possibility?
Other comments are that my husbands family say that he was the same stature as a child and at some point shot up and out. Also i think i nd to mention that i was on 20mg of cortisone after tapering down from 60 mg of prednisone when i found out i was 4 wks preg with him, i immediately weaned off the cort at 4 wks pregnant and it was 20 mg at the time, i had been on it for around 3 months prior with the 60 tapering down, for a neurological condition.

2. My 2 yrs old was born by caesar at 38wks, weight 3.7kg length 50cm. He had congential pneumonia and spent first 10 days after birth in ICU, he has been healthy and happy for the 2 yrs hardly ever needed a dr or antibiotics and is home with me, not school. However at 13 m he is now 85cm and weight is 10.5kg. I have asked more than 1 paedi over the past 2 yrs whether his height esp is normal, both parents tall and his older sibling is way taller than others her age. My mother is relatively short and my brother. My husbands father is relatively short and mother and every1 else considered taller than average.

Is there a need for concern? He has a good appetite despite his weight, all healthy foods - breakfast oats/jungle B/Maize meal, bala lunch and supper and veg, does not drink much juice and i dilute it 50 /50 with water, i stick to apple and grape/cranberry, he loves his fruit, so i dont understand the weight but my real concern is the height. THe latest paedi says we need to come back in 3 mon ths to reasess? what is your opinion given the history?

Your son's height and weight are definitely well below what I would expect for a child in your family. I don't really think that your husband was on the 3rd percentile as a child. It is unlikely that the cortisone you were taking during early pregnancy affected your son's growth. His pneumonia could well have been a problem. What concerns me is that with his history of 'congenital' pneumonia and his failure to thrive and grow as expected, we need to exclude illnesses such as cystic fibrosis in particular. Other conditions include coeliac disease. Anaemia will not usually result in such a significant problem with growth and weight gain.
