re: concerned about 20 month old son

Dear Prof

We have an appointment with Dr Carrihill next week, but I don''t know how we are going to survive the wait! My gutfeeling says there is something big wrong such as a pituitary tumor. Should I ask for an MRI?

Sorry for sounding like a paranoid mom, but I am almost paralyzed with fear for my son.

Try not to be too concerned at this stage. His growth hormone levels were normal. He may not have a problem, so wait for the expert to assess him. All the necessary tests will be done then.

I really feel for you.

When we have a gut feeling, its based on little clues we got from what is going on, and as a mother, it is better to keep on getting second opinions and pushing for things to be tried until something is resolved. Once you know what is wrong, you can learn to manage it or cure it or whatever the circumstances are.

You are with your child ever day and see things that the doctors don''t.

I''m thinking of you and your family and especially your little boy, as I know many of the regulars on the forum (and those of us from the parenting peer group from so long ago) are too. Hang in there.
