Re: 1 year-old still diarrhea

Dear Prof

As if on cue, my sons vomiting and loose stool stopped yesterday. I am very relieved. He also had his check-up with the paed this morning and he is doing well. But, now his tool is becoming constipated again (type 2 according to the Stool Tool on this website) seeing as he is on Isomil and not Novalac IT anymore? Unfortunately I saw this only after we left the pead. What are the options now to relieve his constipation? many thanks as always.

This is a real problem as your son's recent persistent diarrhoea may be due to lactose intolerance especially if he is so much better on Isomil. Many babies become constipated on soya formulas.I would not recommned him going back onto the Novalac IT. The options are limited but you could try an acidified formula such as NAN Pelargon.
