Rash on baby' s cheeks

Dear Doc

My baby boy will be one year in two weeks time.

For the past week his cheeks have been very red and coarse. Except for a runny nose there is nothing else wrong with him.

The skin on his cheeks is rough, almost as if it is very dry. It is also hot to the touch and red which makes me think that it might be inflamed.
Every night after I bath him, I put aques cream on his entire body - including his cheeks. I do not understand how it can simply be dry skin.

What can it be and what should I do?

It is very difficult for me to be sure about the cause of your baby's rash without being able to see him.He is unlikely to suddenly develop eczema now and the rash is only on his cheeks. He may have an illness causing this appearance such as Scarlet fever even though he is not obviously ill. Please ask your paediatrician to see your baby.
