Rash not going away

Hi Doctor,

My 3 month old son developed a rash that looked like pimples on his hands and feet a week ago. I took him to the paed and he said it was hand foot and mouth disease, although there were no sores in his mouth luckily. He says it' s a virus of sorts and maybe got it from someone else who has it.

He prescribed Bactroban for him and the rash subsided on the hands, but it still on his feet and legs and he itches all the time and it spreads when he does so, then the doctor also prescribed Flucocin H (or something to that effect), but his feet are still in a bad condition as they itch all the time! What else should I do or give him to use. Should I see a dermatologist now?

This is almost certainly a skin condition called scabies. The problem is caused by a small mite which gets into the skin. It is difficult to treat in babies. Use 5% Sulphur ointment applied twice a day. Iron all your babies clothes and bedding with a hot iron.
