Q.

Rash around nose and mouth

My daughter is 13 months old. She had a mild throat infection that has cleared up in the last two weeks. She stopped drinking about the same time when she developed a rash around her nose with a few spots under her eyes and mouth. I thought I would clear up with her illness but it is getting worse. It has been two weeks now. The rash is itchy and is forming a crust around the nose with spots below her eyes and around her mouth.

She has never been allergic to anything. Should I give it more time? I was told to put on Bepanthen. This does not help at all.

You need to make a diagnosis as to the cause of this rash. It may be an infection caused by a virus called herpes or it may be bacterial infection. Please take your baby to be seen by her paediatrician.
