Q.

Question re hair whorls

Dear Prof

Our Chiari son has 3 hair whorls and hair that stands up. How often have you come across something similar and in your experience is it related to any syndromes or symptoms etc?

I have not come across a syndrome where children with the Budd-Chiari syndrome have spiky hair and increased hair whorls. There is a rather rare genetic condition called Menke's Syndrome where baby boys have abnormally low levels of copper in the brain and liver. They have hair that stands up and is spiky, but I cannot find any mention of increased hair whorls in Menke's syndrome.
