Purple Pimple type swelling

Hello, My daughter is 4years old and has a purplish type of pimple or swelling below her eye... before it looked like a tiny speckle but then i think something bit her and it now looks like a pimple.. could it be a cyst??? It does not look like it will go away on its own...i am not exactly sure if i should take her to our gp or a dermatologist? Is this dangerous for her?

Please help! Hope you can assist me.

Regards,
Cindy

You have given an excellent description of your daughter's swelling below her eye and of your concerns. The most likely cause is indeed a cyst with the long name of 'meibomium cyst' These don't usually clear up easily by themselves and it is best to see an eye specialist about this cyst.
