Q.

Pulling tops

Dear Dr,

I asked advice earlier regarding my little girl of 8 months that just hates tops. She pulls any tops, blankets, bibs, anything over or close to her chest until she gets it of or starts screaming. She' s not too hot and clothes not too tight. I took your advice and went to see her paediatrician, but he seems to think that this is normal behaviour. I' m not sure if I can rest assured now and if I should see another paed / insist on something being wrong at my current paed? Is there anything specific I should ask our paed to look out for / test for? I really do like our current paed, and would prefer not to move.

Thanks so much!
Daisy

This is obviously not normal behaviour. For some reason your baby gets a claustrophobic reaction when she is dressed with her top on.She appears to be showing some features of the so-called tactile defence syndrome.Occupational therapists [OT] seem to be aware of this syndrome and it would be worthwhile consulting one of these experts.
