Q.

Prozef Suspension / 125mg Cefprozil

Hi Doc

Our paediatrician today perscribed Prozef Suspension for an ear and throat infection for my baby who is 5 months old. Reading up on the medication, it is not suitable for infants younger than 6 months. Do i still give it to him and what are the chances of him having an allergic reaction if his sister is allergic to penicillin?

Thanks for your help.

Cefprozil is a cephalosporin antibiotic and is not a penicillin. The safety of this antibiotic has not been tested in babies younger than 6 months, so ideally it should not be given to your 5 month old baby.
