I have a 5 month old baby boy who has a terrible cough especially in the early hours of the morning and is all blocked up n the nasal passages. Is there anything that I can give him as my paed says you can' t treat a cough when so young. It is affecting his sleep during the day and night and the post nasal is gettig worse.

Your paediatrician is correct. We no longer advise cough mixtures for this age group. They are ineffective and may be dangerous. Just use infant saline nose drops twice a day every day in his nose until he gets over his cold.

I took my 5 month old boy to the pead with the same problem as yours and he prescribed some antibiotic, nasal drops and other meds and told me to use for 7 days and my son had completely recovered by the 3rd day. I was not given any cough mixtures though, but somehow the cough disappeared and his nostrils are no longer congested.
maybe you should seek for a second opinion.
