Q.

Prevenar 13

Dear Doc

My daughter is 39 months.

Her creche has sent all parents a letter stating that the Dept of Health will be giving all children between 18 and 35 months a top up of Prevenar 13, as these children previously received Prevenar 7. This will be done at the creche.

My daughter received all of her scheduled Prevenar 7 vaccines - her last one was at 15 months.

Is it advisable for me to take my daughter to a private clinic to get the Prevenar 13 top up, considering that she is over the 35 month cut off and has had all of her required does of Prevenar 7?

Many thanks
Sam

Your daughter should have the Prevenar 13 which is much more effective in protecting children against infection with bacteria called pneumococcus than Prevenar 7.She can have this immunisation at the creche.
