Grey hair in a young child may have several possible causes. The most common is a family tendency to develop grey hair early in life. The other causes include vitamin deficiencies such as Vitamin B12 in particular. It may also occur in thyroid conditions such as hyperthyroidism.Sometimes scalp infections especially fungal infections can result in greying of the hair.Early greying in children is also found in certain neurological conditions especially in a condition called neurofibromatosis. For this reason it is essential to see a paediatrician so that a clear diagnosis can be made.
