Q.

Pregnant and still breastfeeding.....

Hi,

We just found out that i am pregnant and i am still breastfeeding my 1 year old daughter. Yesterday she became very ill and i took her to the doctor in Sunninghill hospital. His advise was that i stop breastfeeding. Could my pregnancy be the course of her being ill?

Please help as i didnt want to wean her abruptly.

Thanks a lot..

Your pregnancy is not the cause of your baby daughter's illness. You don't have to stop breastfeeeding if you do not want to stop, but you must take a calcium supplement.

Hi

I became pregnant when my son was 14 months old and I breasfed him till he was 18 months old. I am suprised that the doc told you to stop breastfeeding cause viruses cannot travel through breastmilk. I gradually weaned my son at that time esp since breastfeeding became a bit hard since my pregnancy cause sore breasts. Take it gradually with your daughter...abrubt weaning would only harm her.
