This is a very common problem especially it seems with little boys of this age.Your son needs a complete break from toilet training. Not a word about it, just let him carry on as he is now and don't mention sitting on the toilet or potty or anything to do with toilet training. After his 2 week holiday start all over again. Tell him that he is now a big boy and big boys use the toilet. Explain how the star chart works all over again and tell him if he earns three stars in a row if he is able to use the toilet he will get a toy that he likes. Keep up the praise even if he slips back from time to time.Once he gets 3 stars in row move up the number required for a reward each time, 4 stars then 5, then 6 and so on. He will get it right, but it takes lots of patience.

I started training my son at 2, and by 2.5 he was off night nappies almost completely. His own choice.
What I found helped him was having a book to read while sitting on the loo. This just helped him focus to do his business, without me there. May sound gross, but I don''t mind as long as he''s comfortable and not messing around in there.
He''s 4 now, and lately I found he didn''t want to go poo at school because he''s scared he will mess his underpants from not cleaning properly. I re-assured him, and spoke with his teacher, of allowing him to change his undies once done, just until he forgets about this problem, and its going well.
It could be anything that bothers your child, but soon he will learn.

Hi there
This sounds exactly like my son (4 years)! He used to wait until we put on his night nappy &  then pooped. He also became severely constipated because of it. We''ve tried all kinds of advice, star chart, phychologists, laxatives, to no avail. One day I decided to just go ''cold turkey'' on the nappies - told him he''s a big boy now &  we''re giving his nappies to the poor people. Best decision ever.
We''ve been nappy free for 3 months now!
Good luck.
